About Cake Couture

Cake Couture operates from a Licensed Food preparation premises in West Auckland - Shopping Village, Glendene, Auckland. We have had an A grade certificate since we setup our shop.

  • What the does the A grade mean?   The premises and hygeine standards are of a superior standard.

Unlike a lot of home operators who do not meet the legal requirements to bake cakes for sale and pose a potential health risk to the public. We are a Licensed Food Premise.

The team at Cake Couture has experienced staff with Thea having 20 plus years’ experience in art of decorating cakes.

How did Cake Couture start?

  • The business all started from a desire to make cakes for my children into a full time business.
  • We are so popular that we have had students come from overseas and be trained for a week with us. As there are not very many formal training courses available around the world we can provide specialist training.
  • We have trained the chefs from the Royal New Zealand Navy, as the Navy generally prepare the food for formal occasions involving people such as the queen and other royal members. We trained their top chefs in the art of professional cake design.
  • Thea (owner) started out taking cake decorating classes. From there Thea’s class’s grew to teaching 4 classes a week in the evening at local night classes.
  • As the business grew we moved into a facility, at this point I was being asked to bake a number of cakes for different people.  We were known as “The Sugar Craft Studio” at the beginning and then an opportunity came up to move to our current premises in Glendene where we could move into making celebration cakes and running classes.

From there our business has steadily grown from there and now we have almost out grown our current shop.

We still run our cake decorating class’s as they are very popular and we are very keen to educate people on the wonders of cake making. Click here to link to our class info and booking page.

Meet the Team at Cake Couture

  • Thea – Owner and manager enjoys creating the wedding cakes side of the business and has a personal hands on approach to ensure that all clients get exactly what they are after. Thea enjoys the personal aspect of helping engaged couples realise their dream wedding cake design, with flavours to match.
  • Kelly – Manages all our Wedding Cake deliveries, she is a qualified chef so she knows exactly how to handle and manage the cake and should anything need doing she has the skills to do it. Kelly arranges the cake as it should be. Kelly is very precise and perfect for the job, she will make sure everything is just right so you do not have to worry. If there are spots on the table cloth Kelly will make sure the venue staff replace it so you do not have to worry.  This is key to our fundamental principle we take care of everything for you.
  • Sarah – Retail shop management, Sarah is a fully qualified chef and does this part time so she can often help customers that come in looking to buy things for cakes they are baking and have questions.

What makes us different from just buying online is the advice and information that we offer and help when customers have questions about a particular baking project they are undertaking.

Cake Couture in the community

  • We donate all of our fresh cake that is not required to the local food bank. Recently we had a mother come in, we had a number 5 that we were doing for a cake and there was the top left over. So we gave it to the food bank and the lady came in and almost in tears as they had been given the cake from the food bank and it was her son’s fifth birthday and he was not going to get a cake and now he had this wonderful number 5 cake.

In 2011

  • With the tragic events of the Christchurch earthquake, Cake Couture has been active in creating and donating many cakes for the Disaster Relief Fund. We contributed to the Great Kiwi Bake-off held on Monday 7th March at the Britomart Train Station, which raised $8210.00

In 2010

  • Cake Couture donated a $500.00 wedding cake as part of the Altrusa International group silent auction at the Glitz and Glamour Charity Bridal Show, held at the Auckland War Memorial Museum's event center. The funds raised were donated to the Endometriosis Society, and Literacy for Children in New Zealand
  • We donated the fees for a Cake Decorating Course for a fund raising auction at the West Auckland Hospice in Te Atatu Peninsula. It is wonderful to be able to donate locally.
  • Many women who wish to return to work after raising a family, find their confidence diminished. Dress For Success helps women in this position with advice and by providing outfit suitable for wearing to interviews. One huge Dress For Success fundraiser is their 'Suits and Salad' luncheon, for which we donated 350 gorgeous cupcakes for their dessert. We also donated $100 gift vouchers that were placed in balloons and sold for up to $200

It’s very humbling to be able to help people in the community and realise how much it is appreciated.
